Survival Manu 11D/10N

Day 01: Cusco – Asuncion Lodge

We leave from Cusco early in the morning in our private bus. During the journey along the small road, we will pass an impressive landscape and small communities. Leaving the colonial village of Paucartambo behind we reach the Acjanaco Pass (3550 m/ 11.647 ft), the entrance to the Manu National Park. There you will have a first view over the eastern slopes of the Andes to the canopy of the Amazon rainforest. From this point we leave by bike making full adventure and down hill, during the trip further down you will observe the fascinating change from the altiplano to the Cloud Forest of the Manu National Park with its unique fauna and flora we will walk 1 hour's aprox. In the afternoon we will watch bird and observation of other animals of the Cloud Forest, as the Andean Cock of the Rock (national bird of Peru), Toucan, Quetzal, Tanager and Motmot as well as Woolly Monkeys, Brown Capuchin Monkeys, Tayra, Agouti, Southern Tamandua and South American Coati., the rare Spectacled Bear, the Jaguarondi, Ocelot, Puma, Weasel, Otter, squirrels and a big family of rodents and bats. In the afternoon we spend the first night in our Asuncion Lodge. (650 m/ 11.647 ft)

Day 02: Paititi Lodge – Atalaya Shintuya.

After our breakfast we will continue our tripl still Atalaya port and then we will aboard our motor boat where arrived to community Shintuya. In the afternoon we will reach Shintuya where we will meet the Harakmbut Natives, who will be our guide's route for the next days. We will camp at the hot springs nearby and listen to the Harakmbut who will tell us about their culture and history as well as flora and fauna of the rainforest.

Day 03: Shintuya – Tambo Segnke.

After breakfast we visit a parrot's clay lick, where different smaller parrot species appear in the early morning. After you will start for a hike through the Amazon Rainforest together with our native guides and near a tapir clay lick. The Harakmbut will show you the fauna and flora of their reserve we see different kind black spider Monkeys, Tayra, Agouti, Southern Tamandua and South American Coati. The Manu Park is also habitat of the Night Monkey, the Jaguarondi, Ocelot, Puma, Weasel, Otter, squirrels and a big family of rodents and capybaras, and bats. You will have an insight into their traditional knowledge about the habits of the animals living in the Amazon rainforest as well as the plants and their medical use. Your efforts will be rewarded with a refreshing bath in the river. We will spend the night at camp near the tapir clay lick. In the night you can enjoy conversation with the Harakmbut natives and listen to their stories.

Day 04: Tambo Segnke – Ishilivre

This day after our delicious break fast, we continue our expedition through the rainforest to the river Ishilivre. Till afternoon we walk along the river shore and our native guides will show us where they first met the white people 50 years ago or where they were fighting against the Toiletries. We camp at the shore of the Ishilivre River.

Day 05 -09: Rio Azul

One more time we will cross the jungle to get to the river Azul, where our rafting adventure begins. You will be invited to help the Harakmbut building some rafts, after loading the equipment our river expedition can start. It will take us 5-6 days to reach the union with the Madre de Dios River through untouched rainforest. During these days we will drift downstream, and depending on the water level we have to go through some soft rapids. We will camp on nice sand beaches with camp fire. Both rafts and campsites and the company of our native guides will give us the best opportunities for wildlife observation.

Day 10 – 11: Rio Madre De Dios-Cusco.

On our last day we will reach the Madre de Dios River near a Harakmbut community, where a motorboat will be waiting for us to take us to Atalaya Port where is waiting for our group the bus private where we will return until Cusco, we will arrive in afternoon hours.
