MANU NATIONAL PARK - TRANSPORT

HOW TO GET TO MANU NATIONAL PARK

Transport

By Road
Starting at Cusco and passing through villages Paucartambo, Pilcopata, Atalaya, Salvacion, Shintuya, and Itahuania (where the road ends)This journey takes 10 hours to Atalaya(Port), 12 hours to Shintuya, and 15 hours to Itahuania (all from Cusco)The roads are dirt track and can be dangerous in parts. From Cusco there are buses and lorries going to Manu but these only depart on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

By River.
From Atalaya boats can be taken to various places e.g. Bonanza Ecological Reserve, Boca Manu, Blanquillo, Pto Laberinto and Pto Maldonado. Boats can also be taken to these places from Shintuya and Itahuania.

By Air.
There are two places from which a flight may be taken. One is from Boca Manu in small planes carrying 8-12 passengers, taking 45 minutes. This route is heavily dependent on weather conditions. The alternative is a flight from Puerto Maldonado in planes carrying 8-25 passengers, however the destination is nearer to Tambopata reserve and from there a boat to Manu has to be taken which is quite a distance away.
