Ecotourism And Conservation

Manu has an ecosystem which is both rich and fragile in its biodiversity. As it is the habitat of various species which are in danger of extinction such as the giant otter, the American harpy eagle, the giant anteater, and ocelot and …… monkey it is essential to sustain ecological tourism and maintain a high degree of conservation.

Tourist activities must be well organized and highly supervised (e.g. not to get to close to the animals) visitors require to be well informed of tropical forest conservation.

Ecotourism is very economical and important for the inhabitants of the jungle as it enables them to use the natural resources without harming the environment for this reason it is important to involve the locals with the eco tourism in Manu.

The importance of conservation in Manu.

But what of the forests and the lives of indigenous village people who have the right to live in peace. The truth of the matter is that the forests are being destroyed and the situation is becoming worse every day.

Deforestation is extremely detrimental to the Amazon jungle and inhabitants who more being exploited by large companies/businesses. Businessmen are not really interested in the decline of resources in the jungle but only in the profits that they make day to day. They are even willing to kill any indigenous people who are trying to defend themselves and their home environmental their only ambition is to obtain profits from timber.

What is clear though is that if we do not act now to protect the lives and the land of indigenous villages in the next 5 years they will become a thing of the past because the Peruvian government has been tolerant and complied with the demands of multi national companies.

The Peruvian laws sanction and prohibit the extraction, transport, commercialisation and exportation of any species of flora and fauna regardless of whether it is dead or alive.

Recommendations

Only visit authorised places, do not interfere with current investigations and do not establish any contact with native villagers also do not remove or take any flora or fauna. Comply with the rules and regulations of the national park.

It is recommended to use insect repellent and have the yellow fever vaccination before entering the Manu Park region.
